TRANSITION TRAINING WORKSHOP, Sept. 13-14

Transition is now landing in North America!

In order to provide an in-depth experiential introduction to Transition for those considering bringing Transition to their community, and to meet the training requirement for local initiating groups, Transition Boulder County is now offering a two-day Transition Training Workshop based on the Training for Transition course developed by Naresh Giangrande and Sophy Banks in Totnes, England.

What you can expect at the Transition Training Workshop:

  • A deep and profound experience of Transition
  • An intimate encounter with the emerging future
  • A doorway to the power of engaged optimism
  • An inspirational/energetic boost that will empower and propel you as a powerful Transition catalyst in your community
  • Connection with others who are responding to the call for Transition
  • Connection with the heart of what may be the most important, most inspirational movement in the world!

Curriculum: The course includes the "fundamentals" for those wishing to know how to set up, run, and maintain a successful Transition Initiative. It is packed with imaginative and inspiring ways to delve into both the theory and practice of Transition, providing training in the basics of Transition for new communities coming on board, as well as other skills necessary to successfully set up and run a Transition Initiative.

Who should attend: Transition Initiative leaders, steering group members, working group members, and those considering Transition in their communities (whether in Boulder County or beyond!). We would also like to extend a special invitation to those involved in Post Carbon Institute's Relocalization Network, for in our experience Transition can be an inspiring and transformative addition to the work of local relocalization groups.

Instructors: The Transition Training Workshop will be taught by Michael Brownlee and Lynette Marie Hanthorn, co-founders of Boulder County Going Local (the first official Transition Initiative in North America, now renamed Transition Boulder County). They each bring more than three years of on-the-ground relocalization experience to the Transition Training, as well as long-time practice in organizational development, group process technologies, and psychospiritual processes.

Schedule: Saturday, Sept. 13, 8:30 registration; workshop runs from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with breaks for lunch and dinner. Sunday, Sept. 14, workshop runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with lunch break.

Location: Boulder Center for Conscious Living, 1637 28th Street, Boulder, CO. A variety of restaurants are within walking distance.

Film night: For participants who haven't had an opportunity to watch some of the suggested films, we will have a special screening at the training venue on Friday, Sept. 12, at 6:00 p.m.

Registration: Call 303-494-1521 now to reserve your space. Advance registration $200 (if received by Sept. 5), $250 thereafter. Meals and lodging not included. Some partial scholarships may be available. Make checks out to Boulder County Going Local, 2415 19th Street, Boulder CO 80304.

Prerequisites: For this introduction to Transition to be effective, participants are asked to do advance preparation work, including having completed essential reading and DVD viewing:

Reading

  • The Transition Handbook: From oil dependency to local self-reliance (Rob Hopkins)
  • Transition Primer (http://transitionnetwork.org/Primer/TransitionInitiativesPrimer.pdf)
